Daniel Long

Daniel Long has a diverse work experience in data science, engineering, and supply chain management. Daniel began their career as a Nuclear Fuel Management Engineer at Progress Energy, where they managed procurement and implemented supply chain software. Daniel then worked as a Nuclear Core Design Engineer at Duke Energy Corporation, optimizing computer models and issuing operational guidelines for nuclear core design.

In 2018, Daniel interned at NASA Langley Research Center, where they developed software tools for data analysis, assisted in framework development, and fostered cooperation between various government agencies.

In 2020, Daniel joined The Data Incubator as a Data Science Fellow, mastering skills in SQL, deep learning, PySpark, scikit-learn, and NLP. Daniel completed projects in each skill set, including a regression project for assessing CPU and GPU performance.

Currently, Daniel works as a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer at Rotunda Solutions, where they support project development for the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center. Daniel develops and implements projects focused on tactical communications and federal contracting, while also contributing to federal policies and initiatives related to data collection and analysis.

Daniel Long obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from North Carolina State University, where they attended from 2001 to 2006. After that, they pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering at the same university from 2013 to 2014. Daniel then proceeded to North Carolina State University, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from 2016 to 2020.

In addition to their academic degrees, Daniel Long obtained various certifications. Daniel completed the Summer Space Program in 2014 at the International Space University. Daniel became a Professional Engineer after receiving certification from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors in December 2011. Moreover, Daniel obtained a fellowship completion from The Data Incubator in March 2020. Most recently, in May 2021, they acquired a Deep Learning Specialization certification from Coursera.
