Senior Analyst at RS21

Matt Ungaro is currently an analyst at RS21. Prior to that, they worked as a data analyst for Riverbank Conservation, LLC from September 2020 to November 2021. There, they gathered and transformed large datasets in R to generate restoration market assessments based on spatial and statistical exploratory data analysis through interpretable, customer-focused visualization products (tables, graphs, and maps) for an environmental mitigation firm. Matt also wrote technical memoranda to assess market impacts of federal policy changes under the previous administration, using hydrological and environmental spatial datasets. Additionally, they mined federal databases for environmental and economic insights that can be used to assist the firm.

Before working at Riverbank Conservation, LLC, Matt Ungaro was a Graduate Research Assistant at UNC Institute for the Environment from May 2021 to August 2021. There, they compiled and managed geospatial data on flood risk in North Carolina, including historical floodplain map data. Matt converted raster PNGs to vector files using various conversion methods, including unsupervised machine learning methods to cluster raster pixels. Matt also designed programming scripts in Python and R and guides for future researchers to continue the project.
