Derek O'Connor

Derek O'Connor is a Culture Editor at RTÉ, where they focus on digital culture for Ireland's national broadcaster. They have extensive freelance experience as a journalist and editor, contributing to numerous national and international publications, and have held editorial positions at various outlets including Blogorrah.ie and Dublin Globe. As a filmmaker and writer, Derek has received accolades such as the Jameson Dublin Film Festival CINE Talent Award and has created numerous short films and documentaries. They are also the director of a Screen Ireland-funded pilot program aimed at enhancing audience engagement in documentary filmmaking. Currently, they are pursuing a Master's Degree in Documentary Practice / Photography at Ulster University.
