Wiley Norvell is currently the SVP at Rubenstein. Prior to this, they served as the Director of Communications for the NYC Office of the Mayor from April 2018 to July 2020. In this role, they managed 35 staff across multiple departments, including communications planning, speechwriting, research, social media, photo and video. Wiley was also responsible for crisis communications during terror attacks, major storms and public health emergencies. As a member of Mayor’s Senior Cabinet, they set administration-wide communications strategy across more than 50 agencies in nation’s largest city government. Additionally, they developed multi-million dollar, multi-platform paid media campaigns and oversaw digital strategy and content for social media with a combined four million followers.
Prior to their role as Director of Communications, Wiley served as the Deputy Press Secretary for the NYC Office of the Mayor from January 2014 to February 2016. In this role, they led press strategy and execution for some of the administration’s formative successes including Pre-K for All, Vision Zero and NYC Ferry. Wiley also built media relationships across New York City and national outlets.
Before their time in the NYC Office of the Mayor, Wiley served as the Press Secretary for the NYC Office of the Public Advocate from August 2010 to December 2013. In this role, they were responsible for promoting the initiatives of the Public Advocate through press outreach and media relations.
Wiley began their career in 2007 as the Director of Communications for Transportation Alternatives, where they served until 2010. In this role, they oversaw all aspects of communications for the organization, including media relations, marketing, and events.
Wiley Norvell attended the University of Toronto, where they obtained a Master of Arts in Public Policy. Wiley also holds a Superior Certificate in French Studies from Université Paris Cité, as well as a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Virginia.
