Rubin Observatory will produce the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) beginning in 2025. The survey will image the entire visible sky in multiple colors with its 3200 megapixel digital camera (LSST Camera), probing the mysteries of Dark Matter and Dark Energy, and opening a movie-like window on objects that change or move rapidly: exploding supernovae, potentially hazardous near-Earth asteroids, and distant Kuiper Belt Objects.

The Rubin Observatory's Software Development Team is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the sophisticated software systems critical for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). This includes developing scientific software for data analysis, integration tools, and frontend interfaces, as well as maintaining the backend infrastructure and ensuring smooth deployment through DevOps practices. The team works collaboratively to enable the efficient processing, storage, and accessibility of the massive data sets collected by the LSST Camera, thereby supporting groundbreaking astronomical research.

Software Development Team

The Engineering Team at Rubin Observatory is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and performance of the observatory's systems and equipment. The Commissioning Engineer optimizes the functionality of the telescope and its subsystems; the Systems Verification Engineer validates and tests integrated systems to ensure they meet scientific and operational requirements; and the Mechanical Design Engineer designs and refines mechanical components to support the observatory's advanced imaging capabilities for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time.

Engineering Team

The Leadership Team at Rubin Observatory oversees the strategic planning and execution of the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). The Chief Scientist provides scientific guidance and priorities, the Principal Surveyor, Marine Transportation coordinates the logistical aspects of equipment movement and infrastructure, and the Principal DevOps Engineer ensures the operational efficiency and reliability of the observatory's technological systems.
