The donkey was chosen because it is dependable and strong, stubborn enough to continue working until the job is finished. The donkey carried wounded soldiers as recently as the first world war. It was depicted in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. It was a donkey that carried Jesus into Jerusalem to claim Himself the promised king of the nations. They may be dirty, they may not be cute, but donkeys have carried some important loads.
