Johan Backlund serves as the Head of Future Technologies at Saab, focusing on surveillance innovations since February 2023. Prior to this role, Johan was the Head of Research and Concepts within the Product Unit Fighter and Sensor Core at Saab. Johan's previous experience includes serving as the Director of Additive Manufacturing at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, where the emphasis was on creating sustainable value through additive solutions for the industry. From August 2013 to June 2022, Johan held multiple managerial positions at GE Additive, specializing in electron beam technology, R&D, and strategy management. Earlier experience includes consulting in applied optics at Alfa Exx AB, working as an optics physicist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and optics computation at Mycronic. Johan holds a PhD in Photonics from Chalmers University of Technology and has been a visiting scholar at the University of Arizona.
