Wendy Coates

Past President

Wendy Coates is a highly accomplished professional in the field of emergency medicine and education, currently serving as Past President and Board Member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine since May 2018. As a Professor of Emergency Medicine at both the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Wendy has a rich background in medical education, having founded a post-graduate fellowship in Medical Education and actively engaging in education research and curriculum development. Additionally, Wendy has leveraged experience as a dance educator and ballet dancer, focusing on injury prevention and strength optimization for dancers, while maintaining a long-standing commitment to the advancement of academic emergency medicine. Wendy holds an MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and a BS in Russian Language and Literature and Econometrics from Allegheny College.
