Andrew Hertel

Andrew Hertel currently serves as the Senior Director of Navy Programs at Saildrone Inc, focusing on sustainable ocean exploration and monitoring since October 2023. In addition to this role, Andrew Hertel is an Adjunct Professor at Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy, beginning in January 2024. Andrew Hertel has held significant positions in the US Navy, including Professor and Chair of the North Carolina Piedmont Region NROTC, Commanding Officer at the Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, and various leadership roles within the US 7th Fleet, including Director of the Commander's Initiatives Group. Andrew Hertel's naval career also includes commanding the USS TEXAS (SSN 775), serving as personnel programs and policies director for the Submarine Force, and training and operational roles aboard USS GREENEVILLE and USS TENNESSEE. Andrew Hertel holds a BS in Cell & Structural Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an Executive MBA from Troy University.
