Gill Bejerano

Co-Founder, Chief Scientist at Saiva

Gill Bejerano has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Gill is currently the Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at SAIVA AI, where they focus on data science and machine learning in long term post-acute care and the elderly continuum of care. Prior to this, they were the Chief Scientist at SAIVA AI from June 2021 to January 2022.

In terms of academic positions, Gill Bejerano has been associated with Stanford University since 2007. Gill currently holds the position of Professor of Computer Science, Medical Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Biomedical Data Science. Gill'sresearch interests include comparative, functional, and medical genomics, as well as AI in healthcare. Gill has worked on various projects, including developing software for diagnosing monogenic diseases and carrier status in sequenced humans, and studying the structure of the US biomedical health industry. Gill has also been a member of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL).

In their earlier roles at Stanford University, Gill Bejerano served as an Associate Professor of Computer Science, Medical Genetics, Developmental Biology, and Biomedical Data Science. Gill made significant contributions to the field of genomics, including publishing papers on the value of monogenic disease reanalysis and using cryptography for patient privacy in the context of monogenic diagnosis. Gill also developed an NLP-based automated diagnosis and reanalysis portal for monogenic diseases.

Before their time at Stanford University, Gill Bejerano was an Assistant Professor of Developmental Biology and Computer Science. During this time, they launched the website http://great.stanford.edu/, which has been widely used and cited.

Gill Bejerano has also served as an Advisory Board member for Lam Research from 2017 to 2019 and Numenta from 2008 to 2011.

Gill Bejerano completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics (expanded), Physics & Computer Science at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Gill then pursued their PhD in Machine Learning and Computational Biology at the same institution. Following this, they worked as a Postdoc at the University of California, Santa Cruz, specializing in Computational and Experimental Genomics at the HHMI lab. Prior to their academic journey, Gill Bejerano served as the Assistant Section Head in the Israel Defense Forces.
