Derek Thomson

International Supply Chain Director at Sambazon

Derek Thomson has extensive work experience in the bakery industry. Derek started their career as a Graduate Trainee at Devro in 1995 and later worked at Halls of Broxburn as a Management Trainee in 1998. In 1998, they joined United Central Bakeries Ltd as a General Manager, where they played a pivotal role in turning the company's fortunes from a loss of £660k to a profit of around £60k in just over one year. In 2006, they became the General Manager at Califorinia Cake Company, where they successfully delivered £1.4m profit in the first year and managed the closure and integration of the site with a newly acquired business. Derek then joined Finsbury Food Group as the Head of Finance for their Free From Division in 2007 and later became the Head of Business Planning at Genius Foods in 2013. In these roles, they managed supply chain operations, coordinated supply and demand planning, developed manufacturing strategies, and built strong relationships with customers and international distributors. Since 2018, they are serving as the Head of Supply Chain at Sambazon.

Derek Thomson pursued their education by attending The University of Edinburgh from 1991 to 1995. During this time, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree with honors in Chemical Engineering.
