Sanara Circle was established in 2025 to create supportive spaces by, with and for women of colour (WOC) who are experiencing stress and trauma, particularly survivors of gender-based abuse and migrant women. Our aim is to support women to better understand and navigate the impacts of stress and trauma in their everyday lives.

We deliver accessible psycho-educational programmes in both Arabic and English, led by certified practitioners. These programmes help participants build on their understanding of stress and trauma, while introducing practical, accessible tools to support wellbeing and regulation. From there, women can take part in peer support and resilience-building groups, also offered in both languages, fostering connection, mutual support and collective healing.

Our practitioners bring extensive experience in gender-based abuse, anti-racist practice and community building within a by-and-for context. They are certified in The Resilience Toolkit, an approach informed by science, shaped by lived experience and grounded in social justice. Central to our work is creating spaces that feel safe and trusted through trauma-informed, collaborative practice.

Through listening to our communities and responding to what women tell us they need, we understand that WOC in Brighton & Hove want programmes run by us and for us. We have shared lived experience, knowledge and expertise, particularly around racism and gender-based abuse. We also know women want sessions delivered in local areas and in other languages so in our next phase, we are working on that.

Culturally specific services led by WOC are proven to be more effective and supportive than general mainstream services. Importantly, healing in community works and compliments individual therapy.
