Gestur Vidarsson

Principal Investigator at Sanquin

Gestur Vidarsson has over 20 years of work experience in various research and academic positions. Gestur started their career as a Research Scientist at Landspitali University Hospital from 1994 to 1996. Gestur then joined RIVM National Institute for Public Health and the Environment as a Postdoctoral Fellow from 2000 to 2005, where they focused on the pathogenesis of Neisseria meningitidis and immune responses toward meningococcal disease. Concurrently, they also worked as a Postdoc at UMC Utrecht, where they had a joint position with RIVM. In 2005, Vidarsson moved to Sanquin, where they worked as a Senior Scientist until 2017 and later became a Principal Investigator. In 2017, they also joined AMC - Academic Medical Center as a Principal Investigator until 2022. Recently, in 2022, Vidarsson joined Utrecht University as a Professor of Immunoglobulin Biotherapeutics at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Gestur Vidarsson completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Molecular Biology from Háskóli Íslands in the years 1988 to 1991. Afterwards, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Immunology at the same university from 1991 to 1994. Finally, they obtained a PhD in Immunology from Utrecht University in the years 1996 to 2000.
