Michael Smith

Michael Smith has extensive experience in financial management, project management, and engineering, with a focus on the energy sector. Currently serving as the Director of Budget, Billing & Pricing at Santee Cooper since December 2016, Smith directs the corporate budget development and pricing for a $1.6 billion public utility. Previous roles include Manager of Pricing at the same company, where competitive intelligence activities were led for over 180,000 customers, and various leadership positions at Southern Company and Georgia Power Company, focusing on regulatory compliance, financial analysis, and project management in nuclear power projects. Smith's career began in engineering with the US Navy as a Nuclear Submarine Officer and was supported by an MBA in Finance from Emory University and a degree in General Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
