Michael Short

Michael Short serves as Associate General Counsel at Santos Ltd since June 2023, previously holding the position of Senior Corporate Counsel. Prior experience includes Senior Counsel at Aspect Energy, LLC, and various roles at Shell from 2006 to 2020, where responsibilities expanded through diverse legal functions, particularly in gas and power trading, regulatory matters, and M&A. Short has held prominent legal positions in multiple organizations, including Vice President Legal at BG Trinidad and Tobago Limited and Legal Governance and Compliance Counsel at Karachaganak Petroleum Operating. An attorney since 1991, Short's early career began at Alsup & Petty, focusing on oil and gas transactions and litigation. Academically, Short holds an L.LM. and JD from the University of Houston Law Center, along with a BA in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, and is a member of the Texas General Counsel Forum Institute for Leadership and the Law and AIPN.
