Michael Yao

Michael Yao is an accomplished MD-PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in bioengineering and computer science. Currently serving as a Human Frontier Collective Intern at Scale AI, Michael focuses on developing domain-specific problems to enhance language models' reasoning capabilities. Previous experience includes roles as an AI Clinical Fellow at Glass Health, where Michael authored clinical guideline articles for large language models, and a Medical LLM Consultant at Scale AI, where responsibilities included assessing model accuracy and applications in healthcare. Michael has also contributed to advancements in MRI imaging techniques at Microsoft and Hyperfine and engaged in significant research on CRISPR and cancer therapy at Caltech and the University of California, San Francisco. Educational qualifications comprise an ongoing MD-PhD program, an MS in Computer Science, and a BS in Applied Physics from Caltech.
