Arfon Smith

Arfon Smith is a Senior Fellow at Schmidt Sciences, where they focus on enhancing research software and data management infrastructure to accelerate scientific discovery. They founded and serve as Editor in Chief of the Journal of Open Source Software, promoting developer-friendly access to research software publications. Previously, Arfon held leadership positions at organizations such as GitHub, where they directed product development for AI integrations, and the Space Telescope Science Institute, where they established the data science mission supporting major NASA projects. Arfon's academic pursuits include studying Astrophysics and Molecular Astrophysics at the University of Oxford and the University of Nottingham, respectively.
