Maya Moretta

Maya Moretta is an experienced professional in climate initiatives and community engagement, currently serving as an Associate and Analyst in Climate and AI at Schmidt Sciences since July 2022. Responsibilities include supporting the development of a $225 million proposal aimed at enhancing carbon budget measurement accuracy, collaborating with the Chief Climate Scientist to define program objectives, and establishing organizational data infrastructure. Previous roles include Program Coordinator at Maryland Humanities, where Maya developed two grant programs benefiting Maryland non-profits, and Academic Assistant at the 1619 Freedom School, where a culturally-relevant curriculum was created under the guidance of Nikole Hannah-Jones. Involvement in the GU272 Advocacy Team focused on promoting reparations for descendants of enslaved individuals, while research at Georgetown University concentrated on cataloging primary documents related to racial justice. Maya holds a degree in History with a concentration in African-American/Black Studies from Georgetown University.
