Michael J. Thelen, PE, DGE, currently serves as Principal Engineer at Schnabel Engineering since July 2025. Previously, Michael was employed at Consumers Energy from December 2014 to July 2025 as Senior Principal Program Engineer. Prior experience includes a role as Senior Consultant at Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. from August 1994 to November 2014, and as Senior Engineer at NTH Consultants, Ltd. from 1992 to 1994, focusing on geotechnical engineering responsibilities. Michael also contributed to academia as an Adjunct Professor at Ferris State University in Fall 2003 and at Calvin College in Spring 2001, teaching courses in soils and foundation engineering as well as soil mechanics. Michael holds a BSCE/MSCE in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering from Michigan State University, completed in 1992.
