Benjamin Rakela

Neuroscientist

Benjamin Rakela is a neuroscientist with extensive experience in research and academia. Currently employed at Science since March 2025, Benjamin previously held positions at Oregon Health & Science University as a Graduate Student focusing on astrocyte-neuron signaling in Rett syndrome and at UCSF Medical Center as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow studying neuronal activity and programmed cell death, supported by prestigious awards. Benjamin also contributed to the Translational Genomics Research Institute as a Laboratory Technician, investigating Alzheimer’s disease, and held research internships at TGen and the Los Angeles County Elder Abuse Forensic Center. Additionally, as an IACUC Scientific Member at Mispro since May 2022, Benjamin has utilized expertise to review and ensure the scientific merit of various research protocols. Benjamin earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Neuroscience from Oregon Health and Science University.
