Housed in SOAS University of London's Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy, SCRAP represents a new holistic approach to disarmament. Our Strategic Concept for the Removal of Arms and Proliferation, most recently surmised in the SCRAPtreaty, draws on best practices of past agreements to expand the idea of what is possible in disarmament.
The basis for a global-disarmament concept already exists in current agreements. Adapting procedures that have worked in the past in order to safeguard our future is more effective than trying to develop a new frameworks and procedures.
Today, with no ideological barrier comparable to the confrontation with communism, general and complete disarmament could be agreed within two years of initial talks. Most of the technical work has already been done for all these agreements. Implementation could therefore be swift. The extension of these agreements to naval systems can be achieved technically by using similar categories of weapons to those on shore, as the types are very similar.

We are funded by the Marmot Trust, Polden Puckham and Joseph Rowntree, and have working relationships with Oxfam International, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), the Institute for Policy Studies and the International Peace Bureau amongst others. Our work has reached and influenced the United Nations Secretary General's Agenda for Disarmament, "Securing Our Common Future".

SCRAP is powered by the energy of students at the SOAS Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy. If you are a student organisation or individual interested in working with SCRAP, please send us a message or email dp27@soas.ac.uk- we love to feature the work of engaged individuals on our blog.
