SEAFAIRER is an Innovation Action funded by the Horizon Europe framework programme under Grant Agreement no. 101173002, coordinated by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), with a total budget of 10 million EUR.

The aim of SEAFAIRER is to demonstrate, at Technology Readiness Level - TRL 7, the production of improved intermediate biofuels followed by processing in existing refinery infrastructure to deliver climatepositive drop-in biofuels for maritime transport.

The SEAFAIRER project will collect, characterise and process 3 different residual biomass feedstocks: rice husk from the Valencia region, Spain; biowaste sieving material from Bavaria in Germany; agave bagasse from southern Mexico.

The VINTER unit will convert the biomass through a single-stage intermediate pyrolysis and post-reforming process into three main products: biochar, raw oil (intermediate biofuel) and syngas.

SEAFAIRER has a total duration of 48 months starting September 2024 and expected to end August2028. The consortium, coordinated by DTU, counts 10 partners.
