Stuart McLanaghan has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Stuart currently serves as the Head of Responsible Sourcing at Seafish, where they provide leadership on sustainability and the circular economy. Stuart is involved in various advisory boards and groups, including Project-UK's Advisory Board, Global Ghost Gear Initiative's Advisory Council, and the UK End-of-Life Gear Policy Steering Group. Stuart McLanaghan was also a founding member of the Defra Sustainability Leadership Group.

Before their current role, Stuart McLanaghan founded fish21, a value-led initiative focused on advancing sustainability in recreational fishing. Stuart developed a Sustainability Strategy for Mustad Fishing that received international recognition and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals. Stuart worked with conservation partners in over 30 countries to progress universal certification for in-line circle hooks.

Prior to their work in the fishing industry, Stuart McLanaghan was the Executive Director of Eden21, where they worked with major clients to advance their sustainability journey. Stuart was responsible for developing the sustainability strategy for the Francis Crick Institute, linking it to the SDGs and science-based targets. Stuart also played a crucial role in the Northwest England Climate Fund as the Scrutiny Committee Chair, developing governance structures and validating carbon-saving projects.

Stuart McLanaghan took a sabbatical as a Fishing Guide/Instructor at Allendale Estates, where they provided guiding services on England's premier salmon fishery. Stuart received high praise for their river husbandry and professionalism. Stuart also authored the estate's annual fishery reviews and reported to the Environment Agency.

Before their sabbatical, Stuart McLanaghan was the Founder and Managing Director of Deliciously Wild, an ethical food business. Stuart directed the operation of the business, focusing on ethical sourcing and sustainability in every aspect, from packaging to sales. Stuart received recognition as a BBC Food Hero and successfully refurbished the facility to meet the highest regulatory standards.

Stuart McLanaghan's career began as the Executive Director of Associates in Industrial Ecology, where they provided advice on waste-to-resource technologies and worked with the UK Prime Minister's Cabinet Office on low-carbon technologies. Stuart played a crucial role in Defra's New Technologies Demonstrator Programme, which highlighted anaerobic digestion in the English Waste Strategy 2007.

Lastly, Stuart McLanaghan served as the Director of Policy at the Environmental Services Association, where they led the industry's policy engagement with the government and successfully modernized the policy focus towards sustainability. Stuart developed key performance indicators for all policy outputs and was part of an executive team that developed responsible transportation policies during the Foot-and-Mouth outbreak, receiving praise from the UK Prime Minister.

Stuart McLanaghan holds a PhD and DIC degree in Environmental Management from Imperial College London. Stuart also completed an MSc (Dist.) degree in Energy Systems & Environmental Management from Glasgow Caledonian University. Additionally, they obtained a BEng(Hons) degree in Combined Engineering, which was pursued jointly at Coventry University and Hochschule Konstanz (Technik, Wirtschaft und Gestaltung) in Konstanz, Germany.
