Second Home is an academically focused, affordable, and licensed before and after school care affiliated with United Way. Since 2007, Second Home has served hundreds of children from low income families in the Harrisonburg Area. Qualified teachers with the help of community volunteers offer homework help, literacy and math tutoring, social skill and character building activities as well as enrich children's lives with STEAM, community service, field trip, and physical activities. Since 2022, Second Home Learning Center has become a 21st Century Community Learning Center for Spotswood Elementary School students and families. The 21st Century Learning Centers grant from the Department of Education ensures deliberate and focused academic and enrichment programming for the funded students.
