Ryan Benz

Ryan Benz has a strong background in data science and bioinformatics, with over 20 years of professional experience. Ryan is currently serving as the Sr. Director of Data Science at Seer since March 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of Data Science at Seer from July 2021 to February 2022. Before joining Seer, Ryan worked at SoCal Bioinformatics, Inc. as the Chief Data Scientist from March 2017 to July 2019. Ryan also has extensive experience at Applied Proteomics, Inc., where they served as a Senior Scientist, Director of Bioinformatics and Software Development, and Bioinformatics Scientist from 2008 to 2017. Ryan began their career as a Graduate Student at the University of California, Irvine, specializing in computational chemistry and bioinformatics, where they earned their Ph.D. Ryan later worked as a Post-doc at the university from 2006 to 2008.

Ryan Benz earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC Irvine from 2001 to 2006. Prior to that, they completed an M.S. in Chemistry at UC Irvine from 2001 to 2005. Ryan obtained a B.S. in Chemistry from Chapman University from 1997 to 2001, and also earned a B.S. in Mathematics from the same institution during that same period. In addition to their formal education, Ryan Benz also obtained several certifications in data science, including a Data Science Capstone, Data Science Specialization, Developing Data Products, Practical Machine Learning, Regression Models, Reproducible Research, Exploratory Data Analysis, Getting and Cleaning Data, R Programming, Statistical Inference, and The Data Scientist's Toolbox, all from Coursera Verified Certificates in 2014.
