Sefa
David Rickards is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in finance and governance, currently serving as a Non-Executive Director at Sefa (Social Enterprise Finance Australia) since November 2020 and as a member of the Investment Committee at NSW Treasury Corporation since July 2017. Rickards holds key leadership roles as Chair of SEFA Partnerships Ltd. and Non-Executive Chair of both NAOS Emerging Opportunities Company Ltd. and NAOS Absolute Opportunities Company Ltd. Additionally, Rickards contributes to the philanthropic sector as a Non-Executive Director of the Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network and serves as a Trustee of the Australian Museum Foundation. With a background in civil and structural engineering, combined with an MBA in Accounting and Finance from The University of Queensland, Rickards has a strong foundation in both technical and financial disciplines. Sefa
Sefa was established in 2011 when it was selected by the Australian Government to receive funding from its Social Enterprise Development and Investment Fund (SEDIF). On top of the $10 million grant, another $10 million was raised via equity investors and lenders. Since establishment, Sefa has unlocked more than $120 million of capital from the impact investing sector. The Sefa team has disbursed $45 million in loans through 60 deals. Sefa’s work continues across impact areas including crisis & affordable housing, education, arts, community enterprises, Indigenous and disability organisations. Sefa joined the growing community of B Corp certified companies in August 2015. Though distinct entities Sefa works closely and collaboratively with Sefa Partnerships and shares a joint strategy for the continued growth of purpose-driven organisations across Australia and the impact ecosystem.
