Mel Willis

Mel Willis is a Robotics and Manufacturing Research Lead at Sellafield Ltd, overseeing low-level TRL projects in robotics and artificial intelligence in collaboration with academic institutions since October 2018. Prior to this role, Mel served as a Materials Science PhD Researcher at The University of Manchester, focusing on the localized corrosion of nickel-based superalloys. Additional contributions to the University include roles as a Manchester Access Programme Tutor and a Widening Participation Fellow, aimed at promoting higher education in STEM fields among students from Greater Manchester. Mel holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Metallurgical Engineering and a Master's in Chemistry, both from The University of Manchester. Early work experience includes a position as a Guest Relations Officer at Gulliver's Theme Parks.
