Michael Walenta

Michael Walenta has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning over two decades. Their most recent position is as the Group Head of Internal Audit, Risk Management & Assurance at SEMPERIT AG, which they have held since September 2019. Prior to this, Michael was a Senior Manager Risk Advisory at BDO Austria GmbH from October 2018 to August 2019. Michael also served as a Senior Manager, Competence Leader Internal Audit and Internal Controls at Grant Thornton Unitreu GmbH from January 2017 to September 2018.

Michael has a strong background in audit, having served as the Director Global Audit Services at Xerium Technologies, Inc. from January 2004 to December 2016. In this role, they had responsibilities such as budget preparation and oversight, coordination and execution of the global Audit Plan, coordination of global Sarbanes Oxley internal controls testing efforts, and coordination with external auditors.

Before joining Xerium Technologies, Michael worked as a Senior Internal Auditor at Black & Decker UK from October 2001 to December 2003. Michael began their career at EY as a Senior Auditor from May 1995 to September 2001.

Throughout their career, Michael has gained valuable experience in risk management, internal controls, and assurance. Michael has demonstrated strong leadership and coordination skills, as well as a commitment to continuous development and success in the auditing field.

Michael Walenta completed their Mag (FH) degree in Finance, Accountancy, and Taxation from an unspecified school from 1998 to 2001. In addition to their degree, they have obtained several certifications. In 2019, they became an ISO 31000 Senior Lead Risk Manager from PECB. In 2018, they achieved the Certified Project Manager Level C from IPMA: International Project Management Association and the ISO 37001 Lead Implementer from PECB. In 2017, they became a Certified Data Protection Officer from Donau-Universität Krems.
