James Cook has over 20 years of experience in the legal and corporate development space. James began their career in 1999 as Legal Counsel for Ipex Information Technology Group. In 2003, they moved to Hewlett Packard Enterprise as Legal & Commercial. In 2006, they joined Accenture as Legal Counsel. From 2008 to 2015, they worked for Aconex as General Counsel and Company Secretary, where they built a diverse global team, raised multiple rounds of capital, completed the company's first acquisition, managed the corporate infrastructure to support operations in over 20 countries, progressively improved corporate governance to meet listed company standards, and improved commercial acumen company-wide. In 2019, they joined Thrive Global as General Counsel, Head of Corporate Development, and Corporate Secretary, where they implemented a SaaS contracting suite, designed and executed a corporate development plan, and launched Overcoming Lawyer Burnout. James also joined SentiLink as Acting Head of People and General Counsel, where they are responsible for commercial negotiations and contracting, data privacy, corporate development and M&A, corporate governance, and public policy and compliance.
James Cook attended Geelong Grammar School from 1986 to 1991. James then attended Monash University from 1992 to 1997, where they earned a B.Sc./LL.B. in Applied Maths and Law. In 2013, they obtained a certification from the California Bar, allowing him to practice as an attorney in the state.
