Senior User Experience Designer at SEP

Derek Adams has a diverse work experience in the field of design. Derek is currently working as a Senior User Experience Designer at SEP since April 2019. In addition, they are also serving as a UX Mentor at RookieUp since August 2020. Before these roles, Derek had their own design company, Derek Adams Design, where they worked as a Product Designer, conducting user and market research, crafting designs, and collaborating with engineering teams from January 2011.

Prior to that, they worked as a Senior Art Director at MilesHerndon from August 2018 to March 2019, where they designed mobile-first websites, directed photo shoots, and created digital marketing campaigns. Derek also held the role of Creative Director at Fat Atom Marketing from January 2017 to August 2018, leading design and development teams, conducting user research, and presenting concepts to stakeholders.

Derek has also volunteered at AIGA Indianapolis as the Vice President from June 2016 to October 2017 and as the Social Director from August 2012 to June 2016. Additionally, they worked as a Designer at Indiana University Bloomington from November 2015 to January 2017, collaborating with a UX research team and designing various elements for the university.

Earlier in their career, Derek worked as an Art Director at Element Three from December 2013 to August 2015, where they designed sitemaps, wireframes, and marketing campaigns. Derek also worked as a Designer at Fat Atom Marketing from May 2011 to December 2013, where they designed user interactions, conducted research, and created print and digital ads.

Derek Adams has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Visual Communication from the Herron School of Art + Design. Derek completed their undergraduate studies from 2008 to 2012. In 2019, Derek attended Springboard and pursued a UX Design Career Track, though no specific degree was mentioned. Additionally, they obtained certifications in Collaborative meetings and Mapping & diagramming from Miro in January 2022.
