SFJAZZ names Denise Young as incoming Board Chair
Music venue SFJAZZ has appointed Denise Young as its new Board Chair. Ms. Young has been a trustee of SFJAZZ for the past five years, and will commence her new role on September 1, 2020. "This is a critical moment for SFJAZZ to be not only stewards of music, but to be meaningfully engaged in the kind of conversations that will be world changing through music,” said Ms. Young. “Jazz, Black American music, and the social conditions it has narrated will continue to serve as a lens for humanity to see itself more clearly and fully." Ms. Young is a 20 year veteran at Apple, where she served in a range of executive positions. She is an artist in her own right, having trained in classical music and worked alongside Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill and well-known jazz duo Tuck and Patti. Her expertise will help to guide SFJAZZ into the next phase of digital transformation and innovation.
