Benjamin Schafer

Benjamin Schafer is the Willard and Lillian Hackerman Professor of Civil and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, where contributions to structural engineering education include serving as Chair of the Department from 2009 to 2015. As the founding director of the Ralph O'Connor Sustainable Energy Institute, Benjamin Schafer focuses on advancing sustainable energy technologies. Additionally, Benjamin Schafer has held positions such as Consulting Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. since April 2019 and Vice President at NBM Technologies, Inc. from 2013 to 2018, where efforts centered on the application of structural engineering research. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Cornell University and a BSE in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa.
