Don Van Slyke is a seasoned Technical Manager with 37 years of experience in drilling fluid development, technical service, and marketing. Having worked at Unocal for 24 years, Chevron for 10 years, and Shell for 3 years, Don is currently the GTL Base Fluid Technical Manager at Shell, overseeing a $500k/year R&D project. They hold 70 patents related to drilling fluids and waste management technologies, including the commercially successful Saraline 185V synthetic paraffin. An expert in synthetic drilling fluids, Don has a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington and continues to seek opportunities to improve drilling and completion fluids.
