Julia van Winden is a geochemist with expertise in energy transition, hydrogen storage, and carbon capture and storage (CCS). They earned a Master of Science in Earth Sciences, specializing in Geochemistry, from Universiteit Utrecht in 2007, and obtained a PhD in Organic Geochemistry/Biogeochemistry from Utrecht University, where they researched methane cycling in peat bogs. Previously, at Shell, Julia held several roles, including Senior Geochemist in CCS and Hydrogen Storage technology, focusing on geochemical reactions during subsurface storage and coordinating research collaborations. They also contributed to advancing geochemistry research related to energy transition topics and co-initiated the Subsurface Energy Transition Network within Shell.
