Melissa Smith is currently the Sr. Tax Counsel at Shell USA, where they handle state tax policy and provide indirect tax advice for various business lines, including solar and eMobility. Previously, Melissa held several roles at Amazon, including Manager and Senior Manager in State and Local Tax, as well as Director of State Tax Policy. They began their career as an Associate at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and completed a fellowship at the Council On State Taxation. Melissa earned a Master of Laws in Tax Law from Georgetown University Law Center, a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government from the University of Houston.
