Steven Betteridge has extensive experience in technical safety and hazard management, currently serving as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Major Hazards at Shell since July 2008. In this role, Betteridge provides technical consultancy, manages research and development programs, and leads development initiatives for both FRED and Shepherd applications, specializing in consequence modeling, quantitative risk assessment (QRA), electrostatic hazards, and H2S. Prior to Shell, Betteridge worked as a Software Engineer at Tessella, where responsibilities included developing and managing key applications for Shell's major hazard team. Earlier experience includes a position as a Research Engineer at BICC Cables, focusing on the aging of polymeric insulation, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Bangor University, studying piezoelectric properties. Betteridge holds a PhD in Physics (condensed matter) from the University of Liverpool, where a Bachelor's in Physics was also earned.
