Tom Bal

Tom Bal has extensive experience in maintenance and operations within the chemical and energy sectors. Currently serving as the Area Maintenance Manager Execution at Shell since February 2024, Tom is responsible for the cost-effective execution of multidisciplinary maintenance and plant change activities across four production units, managing an annual budget of approximately 40 million euros. Previously, Tom held roles such as Maintenance Manager and Manager of Planning, Scheduling & TMM at Westlake Epoxy, where leadership included managing a maintenance department of around 80 full-time equivalents. Earlier positions encompassed roles at ExxonMobil as Lead Scheduler Maintenance, overseeing maintenance scheduling at refinery and chemical sites, and at Emerald Performance Materials in engineering capacities. Tom's educational background includes a Master of Science in Management from Nyenrode Business Universiteit and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from Hogeschool Rotterdam. Additionally, Tom has experience as a cyclist with Belkin - WV De Jonge Renner.
