Matt Garner

Founder & Chief Technical Officer at ShopHero

Matt Garner is the Founder and CEO of ShopHero. Matt has over 10 years of experience in the technology industry, with a focus on digitization and online publishing. Prior to ShopHero, Matt was Chief Scientist at Mocavo.com, where they led the team that developed a proprietary OCR platform that extracted high-quality text from historical documents for online publishing. Matt also designed and built two private datacenters to house over 1,600 Dell PowerEdge servers necessary for servicing a commercial family history search engine containing billions of records comprising over a petabyte of information. In June 2014, Mocavo was acquired by DC Thomson Family Matt'story (findmypast).

From September 2008 to July 2009, Matt served as Executive Product Manager at brightsolid online publishing. In this role, they were responsible for the company's product strategy and roadmap, as well as for managing a team of developers and designers.

In August 2009, Matt joined FamilyLink.com as Senior Application Engineer. Matt worked there for three months before moving on to their next role as Chief Scientist / Head of Research and Development at Findmypast in June 2014. Matt remained in this position until July 2015, when they left to start ShopHero.

Matt Garner's educational career includes a degree in business administration and economics from the University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business, as well as a degree in physics and Spanish from Weber State University. Matt also holds certifications from Cisco in CCNE (Cisco Certified Network Engineer) and from Novell in CNE (Certified Novell Engineer), and from Microsoft in MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer).
