Carl Rivara is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in product design and leadership. As Chief Design Officer and VP of Product for Merchant Services and Shop at Shopify from January 2020 to April 2025, Carl led significant expansion initiatives and was instrumental in developing the Shop app and Shop Pay, scaling a team from 40 members while overseeing marketing, product, UX, engineering, and operations. Prior to Shopify, Carl served as Digital Art Director & Partner at Identity Works from January 2009 to July 2011, where proactive leadership in building the Digital Creative Team was achieved. Additionally, Carl co-founded and served as CEO of Tictail from August 2011 to November 2018, creating a global platform for discovering independent brands.
