Robert Guay is an experienced intellectual property professional with a robust background in developing and managing patent portfolios within leading technology companies. Since April 2018, Robert has served as the Director of Intellectual Property at Shopify, following a role as Senior Counsel in the same field. Prior to Shopify, Robert held senior patent counsel positions at Huawei Technologies, where strategic development of the 5G portfolio was a focus, and at Ericsson, contributing to the growth of patent applications in 4G and 5G technologies. Experience at BlackBerry included leading IP operations that significantly increased the filing rate and established a foundational patent portfolio in wireless communications. Robert's career also encompasses leadership roles at Bombardier overseeing global IP matters, along with prior experience in private practice at Smart & Biggar and an early career as a systems engineer at MOSAID Technologies. Robert holds both a Bachelor of Science and an L.L.B. from the University of Ottawa.
