David Patterson

Technical Advisor at SiFive

David Patterson is a Technical Advisor at SiFive and a renowned computer architecture researcher. David has made significant contributions to the development of RISC-V, a free and open ISA that is widely used in the computer industry.

Patterson received their PhD from UC Berkeley in 2016, where their research focused on chip multiprocessor memory hierarchy architectures, power-aware and energy-proportional design, and methodologies for design space search and optimization. David was also a developer of Chisel hardware generators for RISC-V chips.

Prior to their PhD, Patterson worked as a Research Intern at NVIDIA from May 2012 to September 2013, where they worked in the Hardware Division of NVIDIA Research. David's previous experience also includes working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Virginia from January 2006 to May 2007, where they worked on projects related to microarchitecture-independent benchmarking, on-chip interconnect topologies, genetically programmed response surfaces, and design optimization.

David Patterson received their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. David also holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
