James Johnson

Principal Software Engineer at Sigma Computing

James Johnson has been in the software engineering industry since 1996. James began their career as a Web Developer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2000, they became the CTO at Skinnyguy.com, where they designed and programmed a website for an online retailer of entertainment goods, created a back-end database and interface for order fulfillment, and provided technical support for the office. From 2004 to 2010, they worked at Allston Trading as a Senior Software Engineer, researching and implementing high frequency algorithmic trading strategies in a variety of markets. James then became a Partner at Good Trading in 2010, where they developed and programmed high-frequency algorithmic trading strategies in the Eurodollar futures market. In 2012, they joined Chopper Trading as a Senior Software Engineer, where they researched and programmed high frequency algorithmic trading strategies in a variety of futures markets. From 2013 to 2019, they worked at Jellyvision as a Principal Software Engineer, leading development on and architecting an Electron application used to produce Jellyvision's interactive experiences, introducing tooling and processes to content production, leading architecture planning meetings, pairing with junior engineers, working with other Principals and leadership to define company-wide architecture, and giving internal training presentations. James then worked as an Independent Contractor at Lightyear Health from 2019 to 2020 before becoming a Principal Software Engineer at Sigma Computing in 2020.

James Johnson received a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Learning Sciences from Northwestern University, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music Composition from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
