Mário Barroca has had a diverse range of work experiences in the field of biotechnology. Mário started their career at Universidade do Minho in 2012, where they completed a PhD in Molecular Biotechnology. During their time there, they focused on enhancing the biotechnological value of a cold-adapted xylanase and developed a green chemistry enzyme-based cascading biorefinery system. Mário also worked on metabolic engineering for fatty acid synthesis from yeast for biodiesel production.
After completing their PhD, Mário worked as a Scientist - Protein Science at T-Cypher Bio from August 2021 to February 2023. During this time, they focused on the optimization of metabolic pathways for high-yielding fatty acid production in yeast.
Currently, Mário is working as a Scientist - Strain Engineer at SilicoLife, starting from April 2023. Further details about this role are not provided.
Throughout their career, Mário has acquired skills in yeast culture, genetic engineering, in-silico protein design, mutagenesis, and molecular biology approaches. Mário has also developed expertise in heterologous protein production, protein purification, and various analytical techniques in the biotechnology field.
Mário Barroca pursued their doctoral degree in Biotecnologia at the Universidade do Minho from 2015 to 2021.
