Simão Soares

Simão Soares has a diverse work experience in the biotechnology industry. Simão started their career in 2004 as a Software & Web Developer. In 2007, they became a Junior Researcher at Universidade do Minho, where they worked until 2008. Simão then joined the Center for Microbial Biotechnology as a Junior Researcher from 2008 to 2009. In 2009, Simão returned to Universidade do Minho as a Researcher until 2010.

In 2010, Simão co-founded SilicoLife and served as the CEO. SilicoLife is a biotechnology company that utilizes computational biology to sustainably produce valuable compounds through fermentation. Simão's expertise and proprietary technologies were utilized by top companies in various industries for over a decade. Simão remained with SilicoLife for an undisclosed period.

Simão went on to work with P-Bio in 2015, where they initially served as a Board member. Simão then became the President in 2019. P-Bio is an organization that supports the success and competitiveness of Portuguese biotechnology companies. It promotes entrepreneurship, provides information about Portuguese biotechnology, and serves as a link between companies, government, regulatory agencies, and the investment community. Simão's role at P-Bio is still ongoing.

In 2020, Simão joined the Global StartupCities initiative as part of the Innovation Team for StartupCity Braga. Simão'scontributions to this initiative are currently ongoing.

Simão Soares began their education in 2004 at the Universidade do Minho, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Informatics Engineering. During this time, their studies included fields such as Informatics, Math, Economics, and Systems Analysis. Simão successfully completed their Bachelor's degree in 2007.

In 2007, Simão furthered their education at the Universidade do Minho and completed a Master's degree in Bioinformatics. This program focused on the fields of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. Simão completed their master's studies in 2009.

Additionally, in 2008 and 2009, Simão undertook a Master's thesis in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology at the DTU - Technical University of Denmark.

Simão expanded their knowledge and skills outside the field of bioinformatics in 2015. Simão pursued an executive postgraduate program in General Management at the Nova School of Business and Economics.

Finally, in 2016, Simão sought executive education at INSEAD. This program, titled "Blue Ocean Strategy," enhanced their expertise in the field of business administration and management.
