Alan Prouty has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Alan started their career as a Helitack Foreman/Firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service from 1979 to 1983. Alan then worked as a Process Analyst at the City of Pullman, Washington, Wastewater Treatment Facility from 1984 to 1987. Alan then joined James River Corporation as a Senior Environmental Engineer/Chemist from 1987 to 1995. Alan continued their career at Potlatch Corporation as an Environmental Engineering Manager from 1995 to 2001. Their most recent role was with J.R. Simplot Company, where they served as the Director and later as the Vice President of Environmental & Regulatory Affairs from 2001 to present.

Alan Prouty has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Idaho State University. Alan also holds a Master of Science degree in the College of Natural Resources, Forest Products field of study from the University of Idaho.
