Dan is an award-winning technologist who has worked in the field of online games, interactive advertising and public government digital services over the last 20 years. Over the past few years, his work has focussed on transforming digital services in government at the state and federal government in the United States.
Dan was lead strategy consultant for Vision 2023, California’s Statewide Strategic Technology Plan; co-designed and was an instructor for the Digital Fundamentals for Public Impact course at the McCourt School of Public Policy; led the creation of California’s first digital service, the Child Welfare Digital Service; co-chaired the Code for America Summit, and is a keynote speaker and published writer on technology, design, government and ethics in technology. Dan has led award-winning creative work as Creative Director at Wieden + Kennedy for Nike, Coca-Cola, Sony and other clients, and Six to Start, the games startup co-founded with his brother has won Best of Show, Best Experimental and Best Game at SXSW.
He has been writing online since the late 90s, and most recently has been writing the newsletter Things That Caught My Attention since 2014.
Dan studied Law at the University of Cambridge, and software engineering at the University of Liverpool.
