Barbara Kunz

Barbara Kunz is currently the Programme Director for European Security and a Senior Researcher at SIPRI, a position held since October 2023. Prior to this role, Barbara served as a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg from August 2019 to October 2023, focusing on European security affairs. Notable engagements include a tenure as a Helmut Schmidt Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States in 2023, and a Research Fellow at Ifri - Institut français des relations internationales from April 2015 to October 2023. Earlier career highlights include a Project Leader position at Stiftung Genshagen from 2011 to 2015, and project management and research roles at Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Center for Baltic and East European Studies. Educational qualifications consist of a PhD in International Relations from Stockholm University and master's degrees from Sciences Po.
