Johan Schaar

Johan Schaar is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Currently serving as an Associate Senior Fellow at SIPRI since November 2017, Johan also holds positions as a Member of the Expert Group for Aid Studies and Chair of the Steering Committee at ALNAP. Previously, Johan was the Head of Development Cooperation at the Consulate General of Sweden and held various director roles at Sida and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on climate change, environmental policy, and humanitarian issues. Notably, Johan served as the Special Representative of the Secretary General for the Tsunami Operation at IFRC and has a PhD from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
