Colm O'Shea has a diverse work experience. Colm began their career as a Biology Teacher at Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, where they taught various science subjects and developed tailored curriculum for students with learning difficulties. Additionally, they managed an after-school homework club.
After their teaching experience, Colm O'Shea moved into the technology industry. Colm joined MCQS.com as a Content Developer before progressing to become a Node.js Developer. In this role, they developed a proof-of-concept for an online MCQS assessment site, integrating various server-side technologies. Later, they were promoted to Node.js Lead Developer, managing the delivery of browser/iOS and Android apps, including a bespoke hospital Emergency Room patient flow management app. Colm also oversaw the continuous integration of features in a multidisciplinary development team.
Most recently, Colm O'Shea worked at Siren as a Software Engineer, Head of Technical Delivery, and Head of Development. As a Software Engineer, they contributed to development projects. In their subsequent roles, they had increased responsibilities, including leading consensus on software development processes, guiding technical delivery, and transforming the development team. Notably, they developed and implemented a self-guided learning process to provide individual training plans for team members and foster a culture of learning. Colm also collaborated closely with the QA team to ensure product release quality.
Colm O'Shea completed their education at the University of Galway, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Marine Science from 1999 to 2004. Colm later pursued a Higher Diploma in Education at the same university from 2009 to 2010. In addition to their formal education, Colm obtained certifications in MongoDB for Node.js Developers from MongoDB University in July 2015 and became a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) through the Scrum Alliance in March 2019.
