Brendan Smith

Co-Founder & CEO at SiTration, Inc.

Brendan Smith is currently the Co-Founder & CEO of SiTration, Inc., a position they have held since June 2020. Prior to that, from June 2020 to June 2022, they worked as an Entrepreneurial Research Fellow at Activate, where they supported fellows in transforming their research into sustainable products and businesses.

Before joining Activate, Brendan had significant experience at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Brendan worked as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Grossman Group from May 2018 to June 2020, and as a Graduate Student in the same group from September 2013 to May 2018. During their time at MIT, Brendan also served as the President of the MIT Water Club from June 2016 to June 2017 and worked as a Teaching Assistant for Materials Processing from January 2016 to June 2016.

Additionally, Brendan worked as a Graduate Intern at Saint-Gobain Research North America from June 2017 to August 2017. Brendan also gained experience at the University of Waterloo, where they worked as a Teaching Assistant and Researcher in the SIMSLAB from May 2013 to August 2013.

Earlier in their career, Brendan worked as a Research Assistant at PLANSEE - Strong Metals from March 2012 to August 2012, as a Research Assistant in the Liu Lab at the University of Waterloo from January 2010 to April 2010, and as a Chemical Technician in the Air Quality Processes Research Division of Environment Canada from May 2009 to August 2009.

Brendan Smith completed their education chronologically in two institutions. First, they attended the University of Waterloo from 2008 to 2013, where they obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Nanotechnology Engineering. Later, from 2013 to 2018, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
